We are FOCO
The Community Dentistry Foundation - in Spanish FOCO - is a non-profit organization that aims to provide dental services to the low-income people of Nicaraguan communities through primary oral health care programs, to improve their quality of life; and contribute to the scientific and technological strengthening of the health system, by promoting research and clinical training programs to develop high level of human resources.
Greetings from our President
On behalf of the founding members and myself, I welcome you to the Community Dentistry Foundation - FOCO, in the city of León, Nicaragua.
I would like to express through these words coming out of my heart, the joy of becoming an institution; result of the enthusiasm, effort, and work done for seven years through the Community Dental Care days. During this period we have had many experiences, in the humanistic aspect, which encouraged us to teach, promote, and cure oral-dental diseases in the population of low economic resources.
Countless people in our country do not have the opportunity to access all the benefits of private dentistry, and only have the choice, if any, to go to the public services; often insufficient in human resources, medical supplies and updated materials and equipment. For these reasons it is necessary to reduce inequity in oral health and to generate changes that allow equality, solidarity, participation and access to all services offered in dentistry as a health profession.
I greet all of those people who have made this possible and have led us to the formation of the Foundation, and I welcome future collaborators. Remember that we provide social service to nurture our professional values.
